The "Shield of David" Papercut - Work 62

The visual inspiration for this papercut was a kimono while the artist also recalled his reading, when young, of Sir Walter Scott's "Ivanhoe". With a miniature window on Jerusalem sitting at the centre of a star of David, the text around the work is most appropriate:

Psalms Chapter 84:1. To the chief Musician, according to Gittit, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. 10. Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of your anointed. 11. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be at the threshold in the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of the wicked. 12. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give loving kindness and glory; no good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

15 layers paper. Papercut: 14.75" x 11.4". Frame: 32" x 27.25". 1991
