The Papercut Jukeboxes

Archie Granot left his regular "playing field" to create these works.The term "juke box" or "jukebox "made its appearance in the United States in the 1930s and is probably derived from the African-American slang word "jook" meaning "dance".  The first multiple selection jukebox came on the market in the late 1920s and enabled bars to attract customers by providing music anywhere without having to hire a band or orchestra. AMI, Rock-Ola, Wurlitzer, and Seeburg  became the leading manufacturers of jukeboxes. The Jukebox papercuts by archie Granot were i inspired by the Rock Ola 1426 Jukebox that appeared in 1947. Lazar and Sons had been providing jukeboxes to bars; diners and saloons in the Pittsburgh area for over 75 years. In 2008, Archie Granot was commissioned by the CEO of the companyto create a papercut jukebox.
