The Destiny of Jerusalem Papercut - Work 9

A representation of the Temple sits at the center of this work, itself circular in shape, thus emphasizing the belief that Jerusalem sits at the very center of the Universe.  Three Talmudic texts encapsulate the papercut and each begins with the words: "Atidah Yerushalayim - the destiny of Jerusalem is..."

"It is the destiny of Jerusalem to become a Metropolis for all the countries." Exodus Rabbah 23.

"It is the destiny of Jerusalem to expand and ascend and to touch the Heavenly Throne." Canticles Rabbah 7.

"It is the destiny of Jerusalem to take in all the nations and all the kingdoms." Avot d'Rabbi Natan 35.
